Post 4 - Midpoint Reflection

The organization I work for offers my school with tech help. Anything goes wrong with the technology in the school is our job to fix it. Also keep track and maintain order of computers and other devices. If it did not exist the school will be affected, falling behind because of technical reasons.

Internship has been similar to my expectations by learning about computers and how they run, using programs and hands on learning about the role of a technician. Is been out of my expectations of how busy it is. Always something due daily. So many new issues that have to be solve.

The environment is similar to my school environment first of all because it is in my school I work, and because I interact with teachers and staff. Is different because after I leave for work am in in a whole new experience, the other side of a student. Working to help students, at school I am the student, at work I work to help the students.

In my time on internship I have learned to communicate using a more advanced, on the job vocabulary. I learned how to listen and follow instruction in order to solve problems with the schools technology. This skill can help me get a job in the future by having the ability to listen and follow the instruction, and learn very quickly, to take care of problems. All of these skills I am learning on my internship. I believe it definitely will help me on a future job.

My mentor and co-workers are always in working moods, making it fun to work with them. It’s very much like good friends working together, enjoying what we do and learning from each other. We all get along well, I like working with all of them. Makes the internship hours entertaining.

Working with other adults in my internship have helped me grow, I now have to speak professionally as if I was an adult myself. Mostly verbally and respectfully. I grew by working for these adults, such as teachers and other staff.

I had to overcome the challenge of understanding the new Mac computers in school, understand how they run and how they are keeping in order. I found this challenging because do not have much experience in working with Apple computers. It was challenging learning the whole different system. To overcome this challenge I pay very close attention to my mentor and co-workers when they are explaining things about the system.  I also took my own time to figure things on my own. Go deeper into learning how things work.

This new schedule I now have with my internship has now force me to manage my time better. I have less time in class which means more to do on my own at home. I get them done by completing as much as possible at class, and then at home I finish it before anything else. I think the way I am keeping track of my time is helping me maintain good grades in my classes.

With 5 weeks left from my internship, my goals are to experience more about the role of a technician to see if it might be one of my career choices as I enroll into college. I also want to help the school in a way other and I will remember such as a file, creating, or idea I share with the school.
So far I enjoyed every day of my internship, is full of work and leaning, I couldn’t ask for better. I wish it can last for longer, I am already used to my internship.
